C'est La Vie!

So, on our way to church this past Sunday afternoon, we slid sideways into the curb of the entrance.  We're all right, but the front wheel on my side got shoved 6 inches back into the wheel well smashing a bearing, the alignment got thrown off and bent a bunch of stuff.  It had been snowing all day and Clint, safe driver that he is, likes to play on empty roads.  Course this road wasn't empty and he wasn't playing anymore...but after it happened, I realized that the thought I had before heading out the door to volunteer myself to drive probably wasn't a thought at all but a prompting.  Clint would have fought me of course because of the two of us, he has more experience and better reflexes...however, I am pretty sure I would've been as careful as a snail had I tried to talk him into it and won.  C'est la Vie!  The car is all fixed except for the smashed bearing and some maintenance we haven't had done yet but will soon.  Not as exciting as a new car, but having the car taken of will be a big enough relief to count as our Christmas present to ourselves!  I am not looking forward to walking or riding the bike to school for quite possibly the rest of the semester.  It's not 30 below yet like it will be in February and March, but 12 degrees isn't much fun either.  Ah well...only 3 weeks left and before getting married I almost always walked to school.  Believe it or not, uphill both ways type deal from Kindergarten through High School...here in Rexburg too since the whole place is practically a hill.  Fun times!

I was just musing, although it would hurt a lot, it would be quite funny if I broke my right arm again...  When I was in kindergarten I broke it on the way to school when my brothers and I were playing on a snow drift.  I was jumping on it and slipped.  They wouldn't believe me when I wailed that it was broken...they thought different when I came home with a cast to whack them with instead of my tiny hand when they picked on me! I broke it again in grade 6 playing soccer...tripped over a boy's foot, the ball, and slipped on some snow...that one was worse than the first...broke it by my shoulder. No cast.  Just a sling.  My mom had to wrap my torso straight jacket style for bed so I wouldn't injure it more tossing in my sleep.  Anyway, the reason I think it would be somewhat funny if I did hurt my arm is that I'm 8 years overdue for it...had stitches in it my second year of girls camp.  So not exactly six years apart from the previous incident...but if it had been...I'm coming due for something to happen to it...  Not funny really...but it's kind of amusing to consider.

Ahem, back to what I started blogging about...

Two days later I had a terrible sore throat, earache, and junk...Wednesday night, Clint came down with it too.  With the car being out of commission and both of us down for the count, we stayed home for Thanksgiving.  We did have pie though...Pizza Pie!  Sure chicken noodle soup would have done us a world of good...but who wants to de-fat, cook, and de-bone chicken and do all the work of chopping vegetables only to wait about as long as it took to prep it to eat it?  We didn't.  So we spent just over half an hour making homemade pizza instead.  Yum!  Crust from scratch...sauce with our choice of spices and herbs...pepperoni(for me)...sausage(for Clint)...and cheese!  To top it all off...sparkling apple cider!  We watched 'The Accidental Husband' and then decorated our cute little Christmas tree...

I'm feeling better today...but alas...I haven't done any homework at all!  Sleeping in all day and watching movies with Clint is so much easier!  But I should crack down on it...there are only 3 weeks left after all and I might as well make them the least miserable I can...  Plus I gave a talk on Avoiding Procrastination a couple weeks ago...  Though it's hard to do, I always feel better when I get things done rather than put in the same effort towards busily "keeping up appearances."

Avoiding Procrastination

These are sources I found to refer to in my talk...I didn't have time to use all of them and I was super nervous (it was the day before I came down with swine flu)...but thought I'd share them here for those who are curious.

My thoughts:

Instead of a list of don’ts, I prefer to give a list of Do’s:
Make a 6 most important things to do list…  This is one of the valuable things I have learned from being an Independent Mary Kay Beauty Consultant and reading her Autobiography mentioned in this link.
“A person will remain the same until the pain of remaining the same is greater than the pain of change.”

Pride is sometimes the reason behind procrastination.  If we are unrepentant because of pride…that’s procrastination.
I've heard several times being a student at BYU-Idaho the suggestion to schedule all my classes and do all my homework from 8am-5pm, basically an 8 hour block of time.  When 5 o'clock comes, shut all my books, put school stuff away and go take care of other important things in my life...friends, family, church...play!

When asked to prepare this talk, I was given Elder Eyring's talk "This Day" to refer to as well.

Poetry:

Procrastination is my curse,
It brings me so much sorrow.
Course I can quit most any time -
In fact, I will! Tomorrow!
I originally heard this poem in Seminary years ago and it went something more like this:
Procrastination is a nasty thing
It only brings me sorrow
I could change if I really liked
I think I will! Tomorrow!

Procrastination

by Kit McCallum
Yesterday, I said I would
Until the time had passed,
And now today, I see my list
Of never-ending tasks.

Why so, I ask myself, did I
Put off that task at hand?
For yesterday has added to
My ever-growing plans,

Of things I say I will attend,
Accomplish or provide;
Seems every day I put if off -
It multiplies in size.

A simple job if given
My devotion for a time;
Would surely have resolved itself
And eased my worried mind.

However, due to circumstance,
As always is the case;
I had no time to spend that day …
I had no time to waste.

For yesterday, I worked on
All the tasks I had delayed,
From days before when I would say
I have no time today.

You see, tomorrow’s easier
To say that I will vow,
To catch up on the overload,
And yet - I wonder how?

‘Tis easier to play the part
Of victim in this case,
And be the martyr ever-more
I have no time to waste.

Countless times for countless hours,
I sit in front of the glowing screen,
giving priority to unnecessary things,
while I regret it I do not quit,
I am unintentionally always tricked,
countless times for countless hours.

Here my final thoughts are given without reason,
I had sufficient time yet I am unprepared,
writing this whilst no one cares,
these final thoughts that I share,
are better left unwritten,
for had they not been written,
my final thoughts would not need to be given.

:{S --> :< --> :( --> :| --> :) --> :D -->: {

So I have only 2 theories as to why I'm sick...AGAIN...
#1-the problems I'm having with my lymph nodes is a possible indication of cancer
#2-my immune system is weak because of stress which has led me to be ill so many times in the last year that it's not getting any better and therefore I'm doomed
PS: I apologize for not following up on previous blog posts with current info...I'm sure you'll understand that I'm currently not in the mood to remedy that right now.

Happy Thanksgiving!

L & L Part 2

So my last post was called Limp and Lymph. A week ago today I had minor surgery on my foot and so that's where the Limp part came from. The Lymph part is due to the fact that for the last 6 months my neck has been swollen just under my chin. My immune system feels sabotaged. Here's the best part...all the blood tests they've done have come back absolutely normal or perfect. Go figure.
