My thoughts:
Instead of a list of don’ts, I prefer to give a list of Do’s:
Make a 6 most important things to do list… This is one of the valuable things I have learned from being an Independent Mary Kay Beauty Consultant and reading her Autobiography mentioned in this link.
“A person will remain the same until the pain of remaining the same is greater than the pain of change.”
Pride is sometimes the reason behind procrastination. If we are unrepentant because of pride…that’s procrastination.
I've heard several times being a student at BYU-Idaho the suggestion to schedule all my classes and do all my homework from 8am-5pm, basically an 8 hour block of time. When 5 o'clock comes, shut all my books, put school stuff away and go take care of other important things in my life...friends, family, church...play!
When asked to prepare this talk, I was given Elder Eyring's talk "This Day" to refer to as well.

Poetry:
Procrastination is my curse,
It brings me so much sorrow.
Course I can quit most any time -
In fact, I will! Tomorrow!
I originally heard this poem in Seminary years ago and it went something more like this:
Procrastination is a nasty thing
It only brings me sorrow
I could change if I really liked
I think I will! Tomorrow!

Yesterday, I said I would Until the time had passed, And now today, I see my list Of never-ending tasks. Why so, I ask myself, did I Put off that task at hand? For yesterday has added to My ever-growing plans, Of things I say I will attend, Accomplish or provide; Seems every day I put if off - It multiplies in size. A simple job if given My devotion for a time; Would surely have resolved itself And eased my worried mind. However, due to circumstance, As always is the case; I had no time to spend that day … I had no time to waste. For yesterday, I worked on All the tasks I had delayed, From days before when I would say I have no time today. You see, tomorrow’s easier To say that I will vow, To catch up on the overload, And yet - I wonder how? ‘Tis easier to play the part Of victim in this case, And be the martyr ever-more I have no time to waste. Countless times for countless hours, I sit in front of the glowing screen, giving priority to unnecessary things, while I regret it I do not quit, I am unintentionally always tricked, countless times for countless hours. Here my final thoughts are given without reason, I had sufficient time yet I am unprepared, writing this whilst no one cares, these final thoughts that I share, are better left unwritten, for had they not been written, my final thoughts would not need to be given. |
